The Background from Coach Azar
The 2017-18 season ended for Wesleyan with a state championship. The Lady Wolves graduated two key players last year but have a great young group returning. This season will be lead by returning starters 2019 SG Callie Weaver, 2020 Post AC Carter (super six in Gwinnett – tough around basket and can shoot it) and 2021 PG Paige Lyons (floor general, great first step to the basket and high basketball IQ). Other key returners will be 2020 Wing Izzy Larsen (played strong for the Wolves off the bench last year, great first step to basket and tough around the basket), 2021 SG Nicole Azar (great outside shooter who has range well behind the three point line, the Wolves will look for her to step into bigger role this year) and 2021 Post Alyssa Phillip (strong post presence who is extremely athletic and runs the floor well, also looking for her to play bigger role this year). Newcomers to the team looking to make an impact will be freshmen Jessie Parish, Kaylynn Kirklen, and Sade Ojanuga.
