Inside the Program: 2018-2019 Lambert Longhorns

The 2018-2019 Lambert men’s basketball team will look to improve on their 22-6 record from a year ago in which the Longhorns captured their 3rd region championship in the last four years, along with reaching their 5th straight Sweet 16 in Class 7A. Five seniors have since graduated, but a strong nucleus returns for the Longhorns including the reigning Forsyth Tip Off Club Player of the Year, Senior point guard Mitch Ganote. Ganote will look to build off of his four triple doubles and breakout state tournament performances from a year ago. Also returning is 6’9 Junior big man Colin Granger who is a walking double double, and is looking to have a breakout junior season. 6’6 Junior Luke Champion, who currently holds offers from Georgia State and Longwood, will also play a pivotal role in Lambert’s success, as his ability to stretch the floor and shoot it from distance puts him as one of the top shooters in Georgia’s 2020 class. 6’2 Junior guard Braxton Beaty will bring explosiveness and a defensive tenacity to the Lambert backcourt, as will the tough and gritty Cameron Nayebi, who is able to finish around the rim with consistency. Seniors Aronde Kyle and Thomas Hickey, along with Junior Will Baker, will bring much needed shooting and energy for the Longhorns, while Junior Kedric Barrett will present a tough and physical inside presence night in and night out. Freshmen Chance Thacker and Matthew Whicher, along with Sophomore Brandon Stoudamire, will also have an immediate impact all over the floor this season.
