Player Spotlight: 2020 Matt Davis (Northview HS)

By: Kris Watkins

A hot name this Summer/Fall has been 2020 6’6 Matt Davis of Northview High School.  As a sophomore last season, Davis averaged just over 11ppg/3rpg and followed that up with a number of strong outings playing for the Atlanta Celtics during the open period.  Davis’ shooting stroke is a thing of beauty, his high release combined with his size gives him the ability to easily shoot over opposing defenders.  Davis has the ability to put the ball on the deck and get into the mid range area when he is crowded at the 3point line. He is a player that defenses have to key in on and know where he is at all times due to his versatility at the Wing/Forward position and size.  Not only does Davis excel on the basketball court but he also is a standout student in the classroom being named to the Honor Roll as well as being named an Arete award recipient, an award given to Northview High School students who make a positive contribution to the school.  We got a chance to catch up with Davis to he says his biggest focus heading into the season has to continue to improve his strength and ball handling.  We expect Matt Davis to be a name we hear a great deal throughout this season!

Northview Head Coach Steven  Bombard on Davis

“Matt is a tremendously hard worker.  He never misses a workout and has scheduled running sessions for the team on scheduled off days.  He is 6’6 with a motor that doesn’t stop and can shoot the ball as well as anyone in the state.  He has received interest from both Rice University and Presbyterian College.”
